Germany and Ukraine have signed a bilateral security agreement. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the agreement on Friday, February 16, in Berlin. According to a representative of the German federal government, this is an «agreement on security guarantees and long-term support» for Ukraine, which has been defending itself against Russian military aggression for almost two years.
Security agreements with other countries
Earlier, on January 12, an agreement on security guarantees, which will remain in effect until Ukraine joins NATO, was signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. The United Kingdom became the first country to sign a treaty with Ukraine, providing for quick and continuous support in the event of a new attack on Ukraine.
On January 17, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France would also sign a bilateral security agreement with Ukraine. Macron also announced new arms deliveries to Kyiv.
