ЕC продлил на полгода экономические санкции в отношении РФ

The sanctions cover a wide range of industries and include restrictions on trade, finance, technology, dual-use goods, industry, transport, and luxury items. They also prohibit the maritime import of crude oil and certain petroleum products from Russia to the EU, disconnect a number of Russian banks from the SWIFT system, and create barriers to the dissemination of Russian propaganda resources. In addition, specific measures have been taken to strengthen the EU’s ability to counter Russia’s circumvention of the imposed sanctions, according to the press release from the Council of the EU.

«As long as Russia continues to violate the prohibition on the use of force with its illegal actions, which constitutes a serious breach of its commitments under international law, it is appropriate to maintain all measures imposed by the EU and to take additional measures if necessary,» the statement said.

The EU is discussing the 13th package of sanctions against Russia

In mid-January, it became known that countries have begun discussing a new, 13th package of sanctions against Russia for its aggressive war against Ukraine. It is expected that new individuals and legal entities will fall under sanctions. In addition, it is proposed to introduce new trade restrictions and additional measures to combat the circumvention of sanctions, both through European companies and through intermediaries in third countries, Bloomberg reported.

According to Bloomberg, the new package of sanctions against Russia is planned to be adopted by the second anniversary of the start of the war — February 24, 2024. However, this will not be easy, as the approval of the previous package required several weeks of negotiations, Bloomberg emphasizes.
