«The National Olympic Committees of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, as well as our sports community, are shocked by the two years of war in Ukraine.
We remain dissatisfied with the decision of the International Olympic Committee’s Executive Board to allow individual neutral athletes with Russian and Belarusian passports to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris,» the statement reads.
«We firmly adhere to the previous positions of the National Olympic Committees of the Baltic countries and are convinced that Russian and Belarusian athletes should not under any circumstances participate in the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris,» they note.
Recall that last year the IOC Executive Board decided to allow athletes with Russian or Belarusian passports, selected through the International Federations’ qualification system, to participate in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games as neutral athletes.
