According to drone operators representative Ericas Elmantas, the need for such a zone arose when it became clear that construction will begin at the current training site.
“Currently, we have an unofficial track, located near [location]. But construction will begin there in the second quarter, so we will have to leave that place. As a result, there won’t be a suitable location left in Vilnius,» said Elmantas.
According to him, a field or pasture without trees, bushes, and cables is needed for such a track, and it is important for it to be located away from houses, roads, and playgrounds.
Representative of the municipality, Edvinas Eimontas, said that the city authorities are interested in establishing such a zone.
«We have preliminarily considered options depending on existing restrictions, and the initial results indicate that only Grigiskes can be a suitable location for a universal drone base. I might be mistaken, but that is the preliminary analysis data,» he noted.
