Her candidacy was approved by the Seimas board on Friday.
This is not the first time V. Servetkene has taken on such responsibilities. In 2021, she also temporarily headed the Seimas Chancellery.
The Speaker of the Parliament does not plan to nominate a new chancellor until the end of the current Seimas term.
«At the moment, I have no plans to propose another chancellor. I think it is very important for the acting chancellor to have the opportunity to ensure the smooth functioning of the chancellery, without distractions or haste. There is time for this until the new term,» said V. Chmilte-Nielsen to journalists.
On Thursday, the parliament dismissed Modestas Gyalbudis from the position of Chancellor of the Seimas by secret ballot. 95 members of the Seimas supported the dismissal of the chancellor, while 13 voted against. Following the Seimas’ decision, the resolution on M. Gyalbudis’ dismissal came into effect on March 22 of this year.
A lack of confidence in the Seimas Chancellor was expressed by 75 deputies, representing not only the opposition, but also the ruling party.
