«A total of 33722 signatures were submitted. Of these, 33,701 signatures were accepted and 21 were not counted. These 21 signatures were from individuals who do not have the right to sign in support,» said commission member Andrius Pukšas at the CEC meeting on Thursday.
According to him, the 21 signature was invalidated because the signatories are not citizens of the Republic of Lithuania. In response to public concerns about any violations or breaches in cybersecurity in the CEC systems during the signature collection process, A. Pukšas reassured that no violations were recorded.
The presidential candidate from the conservative party collected the required number of signatures in just one day. However, it was only possible to sign electronically.
Two other candidates also collected the required 20,000 signatures — the incumbent president running for a second term and the candidate from the Freedom Party.
The presidential elections in Lithuania will take place on May 12, 2024.
