600 years ago, craftsmen and merchants from Western and Southern countries settled on the current Stikliai Street. Over 500 years ago, the jewelers’ guild settled there. The Great Duke’s Mint was located nearby, so jewelers and wealthy craftsmen settled in the district. 450 years ago, glass products began to be produced and sold here. The community of entrepreneurs in this district decided to celebrate Maslenitsa in a non-traditional way.
«According to tradition, during Maslenitsa, you need to eat hearty and fatty food to gain strength for the whole year. After Maslenitsa, the fasting period begins. We have two weeks until the fasting period, so I suggest following the tradition of different nations and bidding farewell to winter from the Old Town. During the festival, we will choose the most delicious pancakes and donuts,» said the author of the idea, designer Julia Janus.
Traditionally, pancakes are eaten during Maslenitsa, but the organizers of the holiday decided to diversify the menu and introduce traditional Maslenitsa dishes from other countries, such as donuts and pies. Visitors can enjoy churros, pancakes with caviar, shrimp, cottage cheese, bagels with venison, donuts with cabbage and mushrooms, Italian bomboloni with vanilla cream, hazelnut cream, cherry jam, French pancakes «Suzette,» Belgian waffles with ice cream, American bagels, cottage cheese donuts with blueberry jam, salted caramel, almond shavings, and fresh berries, homemade pancakes, traditional donuts with whipped cream.
